Unsung Traditions

We. Love. Music. The sounds, the feels, and the history - but as traveling musicians, we are particularly enamored with the fact that music can be found in cultures and traditions all over the world, connecting people and telling stories that simultaneously show everyone’s uniqueness, but also somehow tie us all together.

Unsung Traditions offers a glimpse into some of these rich traditions (through the Warp lens) in efforts to foster the curiosity of audience-goers. Don’t get us wrong, we love Bach, Beethoven, and Mozart, but there are many other exciting forms of Art Music that just do not get their fair share of concert hall time, and in this program .

Part one of Unsung Traditions features the unique voice of Joaquín Turina and Classical music inspired by his native Spain, before jumping across the Atlantic to the “Bach of Bossa”, Antônio Carlos Jobim along with the Warp take on the Tango, Tang, interwoven between. The second half of the program unleashes the epic Warp Suite for Amplified Piano Trio and Drum Set: a 4-movement work composed in the traditional Sonata da Chiesa form, while drawing its inspiration from the Raga Todi, a pensive morning raga from the Hindustani Classical music tradition, with maybe a bit of blues thrown in…
